October is Anti-Bullying Month

Dear Parents and Guardians,
White County Schools is committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. October is Anti-Bullying Month, and we recognize the importance of creating a school culture where students feel safe and respected.
Throughout the month, our principals, counselors, and teachers will be focusing on our prevention-centered approach to bullying called "Stop, Walk, and Talk." Your child's school will be sharing more information about this process, including details about an upcoming poster contest.
The "Stop" initiative encourages students to directly address unwanted behavior by making a clear request to the other student. They learn to express how the behavior made them feel, which sends a strong message that the action is not acceptable.
"Walk" teaches students that if a bullying situation persists, they should remove themselves from the situation. This is a crucial step to de-escalate the unwanted behavior.
"Talk" emphasizes the importance of reporting bullying incidents to a trusted adult.
Our goal is for students and adults to team together to maintain a safe and respectful environment conducive to learning. Even with a district-wide prevention system, issues may still occur, but the "Stop, Walk, Talk" system helps raise awareness, empowers victims, and reduces the prevalence of bullying in our schools.
Please discuss with your student the importance of their words and actions. Your support is invaluable in creating a safe and positive learning environment for all.
Sincerely,
Kurt Dronebarger, Director of Schools
